Blog Pedagogy

Two Finnish teachers, Annika Meder-Liikanen and Reetta Nisonen, provide some student feedback and responses from use of blogs as teaching tools at Helsinki University.

• Their results seem to come me only from Blogger use, no WordPress examples.
• Both are Art teachers.
• Good for retaining the project / coursework etc after graduation.
• Information about blog use and copyright should be available.
• Giving widget examples helped students utilise blogs better.
• Group blogs enable quieter students to contribute evenly.
• Social interaction can increase offline also.
• Learning visual communication skills, personal brand creation, privacy and copyright laws.
• Improves teacher media skills.
• Lowers power gap between teacher and student as well as increasing engagement between the two.
• A core blog linking to all students blogs is essential.
• Social commenting etc, will be lower when used within a school environment.
• Keeping up with others blogs happens rarely but those students that did, felt they gained a better understanding of their classmates.

• Generally, blogs are awesome tools (We already new this… 😉
